History - Keahl: An Isolated Land Liberated through Unity

Predating the "Island War", Keahl was once a land mass shared between two belligerent nations; Zerenia and Novalice. Zerenia, an opulent nation financially supported by the Nordec, was lead by Johan Keilmer. And Novalice, a disfranchised territory whose ties with the Nordes were severed, was lead by Alex Clevescade. It was without question that Johan's military force surpassed that of Alex's in numbers, but the ambitious people of Novalice would thrive on their lust for freedom, balancing the two armies in power. The feud between these neighbouring territories would later be known as the "Island War"...

Lasting for only 2 years, the inevitable battle would end in a most anticipated victory for Lord Keilmer. In the aftermath of the war, he would liberate and unite the two territories into one, bestowing upon it, a new name... Keahl. The reassuring conclusion of the war has freed the people from hardships, as they bask in a time which they now consider their golden age...

About Keahl

The Society

The society of Keahl is mostly based on compensation. The Lord grants fiefs to the nobles on condition of military service or some other loyal contribution. The land given to the nobles are then divided amongst those of lesser nobility. There are those who live independently as commoners, and as such, are relieved of the burden of having to pay outrageous taxes. At the lowest echelon of society are the serfs, who are given protection in exchange for constant labour. Heavily taxed, these lowly peasants are forced to give up most of what they harvest in Kawren. They are obligated to do whatever work their lord assigns, and are forbidden to enter the city unless given a task that requires them to do so.

The Technology

Technology does not play a large role in the social evolution of Keahl. Their machinery and steam-powered engines are greatly cherished due to the fact that they've only been recently discovered. Unfortunately, that is all Keahl has to offer in terms of machinery, and as such, relies on trading to make up for their lack of technological goods.

The Landscape

Keahl is an isolated land mass in the southwestern part of Solest, rich with geographical diversity. Billowing hills, great forests, and wide meandering rivers make up this land. Throughout Keahl is a network of interconnected dirt roads leading to several places, including the major cities and villages..
